The paradox – SharePoint as the data source
SharePoint as the data source
We have implemented a concept called “SharePoint as Sequal” into the data model in ITSM360, allowing us to use SharePoint as the data source.
Vast storage, the SPFx framework, affordability, security and compliance, Graph API support, and compatibility with other Microsoft products are the reasons for choosing SharePoint over Dataverse or SQL.
It keeps costs down and increases productivity.
Some “older SharePoint critics say” it cannot work. Still, we have proven its efficiency and scalability, and we will be happy to showcase how we operate with millions of records in ITSM360, all fed from standard SharePoint lists.
You do not work in SharePoint lists
SharePoint is the data source only, so the primary workspace for your ITSM processes is the ready-made ITSM apps, which you deploy to Microsoft Teams or as an app page in SharePoint.
What about the 5K list threshold value?
Because you don’t work directly with the SharePoint list, the well-known list limitation is bypassed, and you have the entire 30 million records per list available from the ITSM apps.
Apps connected to SharePoint
The apps are connected to the SharePoint storage/database via API calls, using the same methods as an app or web page linked to any database or data storage.
List structure with SharePoint as a sequel concept
In ITSM360, all data is stored as list data. There are over 100 lists (tables) behind the solution, and they are linked together without using standard SharePoint look-ups. Instead, a number of pointer tables and references, utilizing ID numbers, are used by the ITSM apps.
Can I change the data structure?
Yes, you can add or remove data fields/columns created by the ITSM360 solution during initial set-up.
